Aims: We will look at how much services are used and how much they cost compared to outcomes for the people with dementia who use those services.
Summary
This workstream will look at the links between how much services are used and how these impact on outcomes for people with dementia and their carers. Outcomes include health and quality of life. We will answer the following questions:
- Do people with dementia who use services more have better outcomes?
- What are the links between how much care costs and outcomes?
- Do people who do not get the care they need have worse outcomes?
- Do the backgrounds of people with dementia and their carer impact on the link between their use of services and outcomes?
By analysing the statistics, this workstream will look at the relationships between quality of life for people with dementia, the services they use and the costs of those services and whether these are connected to the background of the person with dementia and their care.
1. Recruit 900 people with dementia and follow-up
2. Investigate inequalities and barriers to dementia care
3. Compare costs and use of services with outcomes
4. Compare outcomes of self-funded with local authority funded care
5. Investigate the process of care planning and decision-making
6. Compare impact of late and early diagnosis on outcomes
7. Project coordination
