Help seeking and dementia: reflections from Isaac Duncan-Cross’ PhD
Author: Isaac Duncan-Cross
I recently completed my PhD in Psychology at the University of Sussex. I was lucky enough to work with DETERMIND throughout the process, looking at the role of affect regulation in individuals' help seeking for dementia. This included predicting the timing of initial diagnosis, as well as qualitative examination around engagement with post-diagnostic support.
Overall, the experience was an absolute joy, largely due to the wonderful team I had supporting me: primarily my supervisors, Eleanor Miles and Ben Hicks, but also the wider DETERMIND team. Similarly, I'm very grateful to have had the ability to travel to conferences and meet other researchers around the world, sharing ideas and learning about their amazing projects.
Currently I'm taking a little break from research to gain some more hands-on clinical experience as an assistant psychologist with the Coastal Learning Disability team. Loving it so far and hoping that my future includes a mix of both clinical research and practice.
