International Long-term Care Policy Network Conference

Dr Ben Hicks and Dr Sanna Read recently presented findings from the DETERMIND study at the International Long-term care Policy Network (ILPN) conference in London.

Four white researchers (two male, two female) standing in front of their presentation screen, smiling at the camera. They are all wearing white conference lanyards,.

Ben explored different ways of understanding diagnostic timing through how severe someone’s dementia was. He also spoke about whether the person with dementia and their carer felt their diagnosis came at the right time, and how this relates to quality of life.

Sanna presented findings across the years of the study on changes ability levels, unmet needs and quality of life among people with dementia and their carers.

The collection of talks at the conference also featured Alba Fernández-Sanlés, who compared ‘MARQUE’ and ‘Clinical Record Interactive Search (CRIS)’ data on hospital admissions from care homes. Christoph Mueller also presented how CRIS uses electronic health records, natural language processing and data linkage to investigate dementia outcomes.

It was wonderful to see such an engaged audience and lively discussion about improving dementia and long-term care.
